Princess Buttercup [The Princess Bride]

from $8.00

I’m definitely of the age such that The Princess Bride is an essential film from my childhood. Every subsequent viewing as an adult I notice more and more about it that I find subversive or interesting, and that's setting aside how bold the book is. I’ve drawn Buttercup three times over the years, the prior two being private commissions. I did this one while tabling at Rose City Comic Con in Portland as a con commission and then embellished it further in color once I got home. These days I bring an ipad Pro and Apple Pencil and can do full color work on site, but I rarely bring the scanner such that I can move from hand inks to digital color during the convention weekend. But sometimes! Anyway, this is my favorite of her looks in the film, and I found it really striking, even as a kid, before I understood why I liked color blocking so much. I visited the Pop Art Museum in Seattle a few years ago and unfortunately, despite them having so many props from the film on display, this dress was not one of them. Love it, though!
