Minmei [Macross - Robotech]
Robotech was my true gateway into anime, then manga and much deeper interest in the entire genre of storytelling and the style or production that would open my eyes to techniques beyond my four-color-comics. I remember watching Yamato and Gatchaman/ Battle of the Planets before this but I was younger and it didn’t stick the same way. Obviously Minmei dovetailed nicely with my adolescence, and while I eventually found Lisa Hayes and Miriya Sterling more attractive as concepts, Minmei was the first time I remember watching something animated and thinking HELLO. Here, waking up in Rick Hunter’s quarters etc etc.
