Jyn Erso Happy New Year Pinup [Star Wars]
For this year’s Wrong Rocket Happy New Year Pinup series, we have contributing artists from the US, Portugal, and Germany. For the 2021 - 2022 collection, we continue our theme of ball gowns and cocktail dresses, as if attending a galactic celebration. The first of four pieces this year is Jyn Erso, the unsung her of the Rebellion and star of Rogue One, with a Shore Trooper as the New Year’s Baby. Designing a gown that evokes the character’s design is always fun, and this series has been one of my favorites of our themed projects. I used her look from the Scarif infiltration scene, when she wore the uniform of the Imperial Ground Crew. I pulled the lights and faceted chest armor components into an off the shoulder tunic, and tried to evoke the seams and stitching of the otherwise dark uniform in the paneled stitching of the gown. Her purse references the data cartridge containing the Death Star plans, and she even has a Scarif Gate ship shaped garnish in her cocktail. I think my favorite detail is the design of the heels. Super fun! A variant is also available here without the Chibi Shore Trooper, if you prefer.
