Fennec Shand Happy New Year Pinup [Star Wars]
For this year’s Wrong Rocket Happy New Year Pinup series, we have contributing artists from the US, Portugal, and Germany. For the 2020-2021 collection, the theme was ball gowns and cocktail dresses, as if attending a galactic celebration. The first of four pieces this year is Fennec Shand, the bounty hunter played by Ming Na-Wen in the Mandalorian and the Book of Boba Fett, with a distressed Imperial Remnant Stormtrooper as the New Year’s Baby. Designing a gown that evokes the character’s design is a real challenge. I pulled a lot of black leather and banded straps from her armor and the gown’s inside folds pulling from the burnt orange accents in her look. I drew this long and leg-dominant to try to capture the haute couture vibe. Really fun!
