Cannonball is one of the first X-Men I can remember that graduated from the New Mutants and joined the team as an adult. That acceptance of the passage of time and of changing roles and maturity was and is rare in comics, and I like that whole generations of comic readers only associate him as the midwestern, sometimes cocky X-Man. And given how Bill Sienkiewicz used to draw him, he’s really filled out.
