Betty Ross - Playing Card

from $8.00

I have often worked in a convergence point between mainstream characters and classic pinup poses and styles. I sometimes like to work in more of the classic pinup context as well, from propaganda to advertising to the mildly salacious (for the period) racy pinup context. For Betty Ross, I was working with a conceit where the playing card would be from one of the ‘party decks’ of handmade playing cards with different pinups on them that were distributed in deployment. I thought there was something fun and dangerous about such a pinup made from a photo of Betty Ross pulled maybe from some private rendezvous or party environment and transferred to the card, or if more above board, as part of a spirit booster series of photographs made for the soldiers. Obviously this is a very dated concept, but the danger in my mind is the idea that she would be rebelliously participating, given the overbearing anger and close-mindedness of her father. Mostly, I wanted to draw frilly undies.
