Arnim-Zola Redesign

Here I go with the redesigns again. I like the classic Arnim Zola, now more than ever as I’ve gotten older and have a renewed appreciation for those wacky older designs. I drew this after seeing Captain America: The First Avenger, and wondering how they could have incorporated a mobile version of the character. I took obvious inspiration from the original comics design with the face in the torso and the optics in the head thing, but I tried to give it a darker villain vibe. Interestingly, in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Zola interacts with Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff using old school dated tech like old video cameras and monitors, so this design works really well with what they ended up doing! Given the wall of screens in this piece and how they had him appear from every screen in that safe house, it’s a rad coincidence.
